Overall Thoughts
Well well well. I honestly came in with low expectations. I have seen an insane amount of mixed reviews about this book. People were actually enraged about how that didn’t enjoy this book. So I was taken by surprised when I find out that I thoroughly enjoyed this book.
Pros
This book is outrageously funny. Some would say maybe a little cheesy and I would not argue against it but I was wildly entertained by the humor. With that said there is a great about of cringe. Is that a con? Well not for me I really added to the addiction of reading this book. Another pro I liked was it taking the time to really talk on Demisexuals. This book never overtly says demisexuals but it does have a character you defines it in everywhere and I found it comforting the author went through lengths to add it to the novel when so many others do not. For those who are not familiar with it. Its is when you do not feel sexual attraction unless you are deeply and romantically interested in the person. My friend once said, “isn’t everybody like that?” It broke my heart to tell her no so it nice this book brought it to light.
What I really liked about this book is personally made commentary on things romance books or any books never speak about. I personally felt seen in this book which was another reason for falling inlove with this piece of literature. There is a character who talks about hating irrational praise. When people just praise you for no reason even when you feel low. This always bothers me because it makes my feelings feel invalid and I just really appreciated this author adding it. Another interesting topic is men vs women in the workplace and the power struggle between them. This book had insanely relatable characters and it had an even crazier villain. If you are character driven reader than you will definitely have a good time with this book.
Honestly, I could go on and on about all the pros I found in this book but I will say even though you did get many it had the sweetest intimacy scene I have ever read in all my years of reading romance and erotica. Ali you really wrote something here and I loved it.
Cons
I don’t have a lot of cons so I will make this short. The slow burn romance was almost too slow. The one intimacy scene we get is near the end and that’s all you get. For this to be called a romance I would actually beg to differ. I think this book should be classified as an adult contemporary. I didn’t even can that much for the romance as I did the story surrounding it. Being we didn’t get much intimacy its what was really carrying the story and the reason why I am like… I don’t think this needed to be pitched as a romance. But hey that my opinion.
Conclusion
Dear Reader if you weren’t sure to pick up this book because you heard it was fan fiction, I honestly urge you to dismiss those thoughts because it truly is a great read. But if you only want to read this book for hot smokin smut then I would tell you to skip this one. Its a wonderful love story but will not light a fire in your under carry.
