So let just get right to it. There are disappointments then there is… why did you waste my time. This book was the later.
Synopsis
This book tells the story of a girl, Sheetal, who is a half star left by her mother, a star, years ago when she was young. Raised by her father and Aunties. Sheetal was warned years ago by her mother she must conceal who she is. Sheetal does everything she can to honor this until someone close to her reveals her secret leading her down a journey against time of fear and determination to right an accident and rejoin her family among the stars. Wrapped up in beautiful east Indian culture this book is Inspired by Star Dust by Neil Gaiman.
World Building
The world building was sad. Just a non-existent and stale. To be fair, I believe this book is more urban fantasy and relies heavily on your prior knowledge of a city and what you think living among the clouds would be. The main character is so focused on her mission she doesn’t take a lot in other than her own personal pain. But if I had to imagine the heavens, I guessed it looked like this :
Which in my mind is beautiful but again it’s not important to the story so don’t get hyped on the idea of exploring this world and getting lost in it.
Magic System
The magic system does exist but it’s just not that interesting. The biggest thing you understand is that Stars have the ability to inspire and heal people. The magic system is rudimentary at best. There is a scene where the main character wants to learn something that Star’s learned to master over years, the main character masters in one paragraph. Gross!
Writing
The writing was easy to read. Almost so easy you could read this book in a day. I personally thought… hmmm Is this Young Adult or Middle Grade. If you read this book you would agree middle grade.
Character Development
Okay please understand I am character reader. I love a well written character I can relate too and love. Let me warn you… if you don’t like these characters in the beginning you aren’t gonna magically like them later. These reason is because….. THERE IS NO CHARACHTER DEVELOPMENT!!!! They are the same darn people from beginning to the end of the book. UGH what a waste.
Plot
HAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Plot you say? What Plot?
I’m about to let you in on a secret. No matter what the main character did the ending was going to be the SAME!!! can you imagine the hours I put into this book. For nothing to matter!
Final Thoughts
This book had all the potential in the world but simply missed the mark for me. Personally it lack imagination and had a lot of pointless moments that added up to nothing.
I would read someting else from this writer because I believe they can only go up from here,
